Max Calder grew up in Philadelphia. Always the non-conformist, he rebelled against the family tradition of an Ivy League education and gravitated toward dark alley classrooms where his teachers were the shadiest of characters. Spinning yarns and holding court are among his crafts. Many colorful stories were born of his years on the streets of Philly.
